This photograph was taken on 8 March 1945 by a U.S. Army Signal Corps photographer. It shows troops of the 2d Infantry Division, First U.S. Army as they prepare to move up to the vacinity of Harscheid, Germany.

Two M-4 Sherman tanks are visible with a number of soldiers riding on the tanks and standing nearby. Several medics are identifiable by the Red Cross on their helmets. Almost everyone is smoking.
