This photo was taken at Fort Knox, Kentucky in June of 1942. It clearly shows a young soldier in training, aiming his M1 Garand rifle from inside an M3 halftrack (identified from related photos). He is still equipped with the M1917 helmet since the new M-1 "Steel Pot" helmet had not yet been issued. The barrel of the half-track's M-1971A1 machine gun can be seen in the upper left. There is an incredible amount of detail in this photo. The full size image shows details of the M1 and the half-track.
