WW II Bougainville Surgery Bunker, 1943
This photo from World War II shows the sandbagged entrance to an underground surgery bunker, behind the front lines on Bougainville, in the Solomon Islands. Inside the heavily fortified bunker, an American Army doctor operates on a U.S. soldier wounded by a Japanese sniper. The photo is dated 13 December 1943.
