Truck, Cargo, 1 1/4 ton, 4x4 M-1008
The M-1008 is a Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV pronounced "cuck-vee"), a military modified Chevrolet commercial pick-up truck, based on the General Motors Model K30903 pickup. The CUCVs were an attempt by the U.S. military to use COTS (commercial, off-the-shelf) vehicles with minor modification in non-combat roles. This effort to save money was not very successful and eventually most CUCV units where replaced by the HMMWV.

M1008 Truck, Cargo, Tactical, 1 1/4 Ton, 4x4 Chevrolet CUCV
The M1008 cargo truck (pick-up body) is the base model of the M10xx Chevy Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicles (CUCV) series of trucks. The M1008 (NSN 2320-01-123-6827) and M1008A1 (NSN 2320-01-123-2671) are light commercial trucks, with military modifications, designed to provide standard tactical mobility and to carry cargo or passengers. The M1008 and M1008A1 can be equipped with troop seats to accommodate up to eight personnel in the pickup bed. The M1008A1 includes a 100 amp/24 volt communications kit. A folding cargo cover and bows are also available as a kit to cover the cargo box.
The M1008A1 is sometimes referred to as the "CUCV II".
The M1008 evolved to the M1028 CUCV series of trucks, visually almost identical but with heavier suspension and other components to carry communications/electronics shelters and equipment.
