After a 1972 Army RFP for a new Infantry Fighting Vehicle, FMC Corporation developed this vehicle, the XM723, loosly based on the USMC Amtrac, rather than the M113. The Bradley Fighting Vehicle was ultimately derived from the XM723 prototype in the form of the XM2 and XM3 Bradley prototypes, standardized in the 1980s.
