The MaxxPro XL is a Category II MRAP vehicle with a V-shape hull design coupled with armor and other survivability features. Like other MRAP vehicles, MaxxPro XL seeks to provide troops with an increased level of protection against small arms fire, RPGs, mineblasts, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other hazards when compared to the up-armored HMMWV.
The MaxxPro XL shares a common platform with the MaxxPro Category I MRAP vehicle but is longer and has greater capacity for cargo or crew. Although visually very similar, the MaxxPro XL can be recognized by additional external access panels, for example beyond the rear axle.
MaxxPro XL was tested at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in March 2007. On 19 June 2007 there was a contract award for sixteen MaxxPro XL Category II vehicles with delivery scheduled by September 2007.
MaxxPro XL is produced by International Military and Government LLC (IMG), a wholly owned affiliate of Navistar International Corporation.
