HMMWV with AVENGER weapon system, Stinger missile. Early in the 1980s the U.S. Army began to research ways to overcome the military's lack of air defense. One result of these initiatives was the AVENGER weapon system. The AVENGER is a non-developmental item (NDI), lightweight, highly mobile and transportable surface-to-air missile/gun weapon system mounted on a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV). Mounted on the turret are a .50 caliber M3P remote operated machine gun and two Standard Vehicle Missile Launchers (SVMLs), both of which contain four STINGER missiles. It is operated by a two-man crew for defense against helicopters and fixed wing aircraft at low altitude, day or night, and in clear or adverse weather

The companies listed here are part of the HMMWV supply chain (i.e. vendors to AM General LLC for OEM parts or to the U.S. Government for replacements and add-ons). They have HMMWV information on their websites. Links change frequently so use Google with the company name if the link is obsolete.

See also the HMMWV Parts page for other suppliers. AM General's supply chain for the military HMMWV has hundreds of vendors, most not listed here. For example, Goodyear provides the HMMWV original tires and replacements are sold directly to the U.S. Government.

Hummer/HMMWV Information Web Sites

Geoff's Humvee Page. The most comprehensive site on the web covering military and civilian HMMWV/Hummers in all their variations. Many resources and links including message board and chat.

Ben Goetter's "About My HUMMER" page has excellent discussion and operational descriptions of the HUMMER from Ben's personal experiences with his rig plus research into both military and civilian models. He includes many useful resource links.

Official Hummer Web Site is primarily about the Hummer, but has some info and links about the military version too. Another good Hummer site is HMMVEE.NET.

Hummer Jump Site has a collection of Hummer/HMMWV info, humor and stories.

Hummer Stuff has all the Hummer and Humvee logo clothing, mugs, etc. available for mail order. Not military, but I guess it belongs here.

Finally, visit the Hummer Link Trade (HLT) by going to the Olive-Drab.com Web Ring page. HLT is a Ring of Hummer/HMMWV web sites that Olive-Drab.com belongs to and you can use to get to some of the better HMMWV places.
