This photo was taken in June 1941 at Ft. Custer, MI. It shows a convoy of Army trucks from the 184th Field Artillery lined up to take visiting friends and relatives arriving by rail from Chicago to the Army Post.

The 184th Field Artillery Regiment, an African-American unit, was inducted into Federal Service from the Illinois National Guard at Chicago in January 1941 and was moved to Fort Custer for assignment to the 2nd U.S. Army. The regiment was reorganized and renamed several times as they moved with the 2nd Army to Europe for wartime service that ended in Germany in 1945.

Ft. Custer, located in Augusta, MI, is now the site of Fort Custer National Cemetery, U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs.
