This U.S. Navy photo was taken at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on 7 December 1942 as the USS New Jersey (BB-62), one of the four Iowa-class battleships, slides into the water for the first time. The launch date was chosen to be the first anniversary of the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor.
