This advertisement by General Tire and Rubber Co. of Akron, OH was used during World War II. It was inspired by images such as this "They've Got More Important Places to Go Than You" Poster in circulation at the same time.

During the war, rubber was in short supply due to huge demand for military production and due to the loss of natural rubber sources in southeast Asia, captured by the Japanese. Rubber for civilian use was tightly rationed. The tire industry responded with special "war tires" made from reclaimed rubber, inferior products for civilian use. There were also continuous campaigns to educate the public to save rubber, such as with this related poster.
