M1028 Truck, Cargo, Tactical, 1 1/4 Ton, 4x4 Chevrolet CUCVThe M1028 cargo truck is a model of the M10xx Chevy Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicles (CUCV) series of trucks. The M1028 CUCV and its variants are light commercial trucks with a pick-up body, with military modifications, designed to provide standard tactical mobility and to carry the S-250 electronics/communications shelter. The M1028 and its variants are derived from the M1008 Truck, Cargo, Tactical, 1 1/4 Ton, 4x4 pick-up truck but with upgrades including a heavier rear suspension with an overload leaf spring. There is no visual distinction between the M1008 and the M1028 series trucks, except for dual wheel models. The nomenclature and features of the M1028 variants are:

- M1028A3 Truck, Shelter Carrier, Tactical, 1 1/4 Ton, 4x4 (Same as M1028A2 with NP208 plus dual rear wheels) (NSN 2320-01-325-1937)
- M1028FF Truck, Firefighting, 1 1/4 Ton, 4x4 (M1028 with fire fighting equipment in cargo bed) (NSN 4210-01-259-4609)
Quoting for TM 9-2320-289-20, Change 2 (1 May 1992):
"The M1028 has a 100amp/24v electrical system, and will accept an S250 communications shelter and a communications kit. The M1028A1 is equipped with a New Process Model 205 Transfer Case which allows for the addition of a power take-off (PTO) unit. Some M1028s have been equipped with heavy-duty electrical systems that incorporate the M1010 200 amp/24v electrical system and air conditioner fixtures. These M1028s have not been provided with a different designation. The M1028A2 is an M1028A1 which has been converted to rear dual wheel configuration. The M1028A3 is an M1028 which has been converted to a rear dual wheel shelter carrier configuration and is equipped with a New Process 208 Transfer Case."
