M870A2S MEDIUM HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORTER (MHET).

The M870A2-S, fielded in April 2006, is a 40-ton payload, three axle Medium Heavy Equipment Transporter (MHET) that replaces the M870A2 semitrailer. The M870A2-S incorporates ABS brakes and a B-21 Reyco Granning Suspension leaf-spring type suspension. M870A2-S trailers are procured from the manufacturer as new trailers as well as created by converting M870A2 trailers during depot level repair operations.

Most of the specifications for the M870A2S are identical to the M870A2, with the primary exceptions of:

  • Updated with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
  • Updated with air ride suspension: air springs, shock absorbers, and height control value
  • Axle Type: Non-Driving Tapered spindle
