The Truck, Contract Maintenance, 1-1/4 Ton, 4x4 M887 has a custom body made by Southwest Truck Body Co. that accomodates tools and equipment in support of field maintenance operations. The nomenclature M887 refers to the truck cab and chassis on which the Contract Maintenance body is mounted. That is, the body is mounted on a Truck, Chassis, 1-1/4 Ton, 4x4 M887 (NSN 2320-00-579-9080). The body and equipment considered alone are called Shop Equipment, Contract Maintenance, Truck Mounted, Southwest Model SECM (NSN 4940-01-016-2262), documented in TM 9-4940-421-14. The Contract Maintenance body is Model SECM with Serial No. SECM 1001 through SECM 2532. It consists of eight compartments that provide storage space for all tools and equipment. The shop is equipped with a generator-welder that provides 115 volt single-phase alternating current for operation of the air compressor and other equipment, and 200 amperes, 28 volt direct current for welding.
