M-944 Truck, Chassis, 5-ton, 6x6

The M-944 Truck, Chassis, 5-ton, 6x6 is part of the M-939 Series of 5 ton 6x6 trucks. Details of the history, model numbers, and configurations of the M939-series of trucks are on the linked page.

Variants M-944, M-944A1 and M-944A2 were produced.

One of the missions of the M944 chassis was to carry a shop shelter with nomenclature Shop Equipment, Organizational Repair, Truck Mounted (SEORTM). The SEORTM is referred to as "Bat Wing" because of its appearance when the side panels are opened. SEORTM is a self-contained machine shop, with lathes, drill presses, welders, valve grinding machine, milling machine, and other metal working tools, all powered by a generator driven by a shaft from the M944 PTO. SEORTM is NSN 4940-01-236-0166. SEORTM is also mounted on the M-811 Truck, Chassis, 5 Ton 6x6 and on a trailer.
